Emax or Zirconia?
The Perfect Choice for Your Dream Smile!
Both Emax (lithium disilicate ceramic) and zirconia are premium materials used in the fabrication of dental veneers and crowns, offering excellent solutions for both aesthetics and functionality. Each material has specific characteristics that make it suitable for different types of dental restorations, and the choice between them depends on the individual needs of the patient and the recommendations of the dentist.
Emax is a high-performance ceramic material used to create veneers and crowns with superior aesthetics. Thanks to its special composition, Emax is extremely strong while also offering outstanding translucency that perfectly mimics natural teeth. It is ideal for restorations in the anterior region, where achieving the highest level of aesthetics is essential. Emax has excellent optical properties, simulating both the appearance and structure of natural tooth enamel.
Advantages of Emax:
Thanks to its translucency and brightness, Emax offers a highly natural-looking result.
Even at minimal thickness compared to other materials, Emax is strong enough to withstand moderate chewing forces.
It is ideal for veneers, crowns, inlays, onlays, and even no-prep veneers, making it perfect for enhancing the aesthetics of a smile.
This material can be layered to create shades and textures that blend seamlessly with natural teeth.
Zirconia – Durability and Strength for Full Restorations
Advantages of Zirconia:
Zirconia is a very strong material, ideal for dental crowns on posterior teeth and for patients with a strong bite.
It is highly resistant to abrasion, making it perfect for restorations that need to withstand intense chewing forces.
Although it does not have the same level of translucency as Emax, modern zirconia is available in more translucent versions, offering a natural appearance and blending well with the dental arch.
It is a biocompatible material that does not cause adverse reactions to the gums or surrounding tissues.
Zirconia is an extremely strong and durable material, commonly used for crowns and dental restorations on posterior teeth, where chewing forces are greater. Although it is less translucent than Emax, zirconia still offers very good aesthetics, and recent technological advancements have led to the development of zirconia with higher translucency, better mimicking the natural appearance of teeth. It is an excellent choice for cases where long-term durability is essential and when the dentist requires a strong and resilient solution.
Differences Between Emax and Zirconia
While both materials are high-quality and widely used in modern dentistry, their key differences lie in aesthetics, durability, and recommended applications:
Emax offers superior aesthetics due to its higher translucency and more natural appearance, making it ideal for anterior teeth (front teeth), where visual appeal is essential. Zirconia, on the other hand, is more opaque and less translucent, but recent technological advancements have led to the development of more translucent zirconia options, which are increasingly valued for their improved aesthetics.
For posterior teeth restorations, zirconia is the preferred choice due to its ability to withstand high chewing forces. Emax, while also a durable material, is more suited for the anterior region, where less intense masticatory forces are present.
Emax is generally used for veneers and crowns on anterior teeth because of its outstanding aesthetic properties, while zirconia is more commonly chosen for crowns on posterior teeth and for restorations that require long-term strength and resilience.
Both materials allow for customization and individual adaptations tailored to each patient, the only limitations being functional and structural. Each material has minimum thickness requirements to ensure their long-term integrity.
The Importance of Customization: Layering, Texture, and Shape
At our laboratory, we place great emphasis on customizing every restoration. Whether we work with Emax or zirconia, each crown or veneer is crafted with the patient’s unique characteristics in mind. Using advanced layering techniques, we ensure that the material perfectly matches the natural shades and textures of the teeth. Additionally, the shape of each restoration is carefully adapted to blend harmoniously into the patient’s smile, providing both functionality and aesthetics.
We have extensive experience in performing full-mouth rehabilitations, successfully working on numerous complex cases, and we are committed to delivering personalized solutions that meet the highest standards. Every case is unique, and our team of specialists will work closely with both the patient and the dentist to choose the ideal solution, taking into account each individual’s aesthetic preferences and functional needs.

Implantology
The prosthetic approach on implants is an extremely delicate area, especially in a fully digitalized environment, where our passion for precision and protocols is often challenged by the diversity of implant types and prosthetic options encountered in dental practice.

Customized Prosthetic Solutions for Implants
Despite these challenges, we have developed effective solutions for less complex cases by using standardized Ti-Base abutments for screw-retained crowns and bridges, as well as creating custom zirconia abutments, processed directly in our laboratory for more advanced situations.
We are also open to collaboration, drawing on the expertise of our colleagues who specialize in this niche, allowing us to offer a wide range of options: pre-milled abutments, titanium bars, fully customized abutments, scan bodies, digital analogs, and essentially anything that can be milled or synthesized from titanium and other metals.
Inlay, Onlay, and Overlay – Precise and Long-Lasting Restorations
For cases where a tooth has moderate to extensive damage but does not require a full crown, we create custom inlay, onlay și overlayrestorations. These are minimally invasive solutions that preserve as much of the natural tooth structure as possible.
An indirect filling placed inside the tooth cavity when the tooth walls are intact and do not require additional coverage.
Similar to an inlay but extended to cover one or more of the tooth's walls, providing extra protection in cases of moderate damage.
An extended version of the onlay that covers the entire occlusal surface of the tooth, serving as a more conservative alternative to a dental crown.
All these restorations are crafted using aesthetic and biocompatible materials, such as Emax ceramic, ensuring a perfect fit and long-term durability.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT TYPE OF VENEERS AND CROWNS FOR YOUR PATIENTS?
The choice between feldspathic, Emax, or refractory veneers depends on several factors, including the location of the restoration (anterior or posterior teeth), the patient’s aesthetic expectations, and functional requirements.
